Artists have been depicting the figure for mil- lennia, sometimes in exacting detail and sometimes vaguely, but always with the knowledge that each viewer has a direct connection with the topic — and also a means of assessing the rendition’s precision. Even though it would be easy to fll this section with examples from the classical ateliers, we have mixed up it here stylistically.
